Solar panels, or solar cells, are mostly made of silicon photovoltaic cells. The most commonly used solar panels are manufactured using monocrystalline or polycrystalline silicon technologies. Polycrystalline batteries are relatively newer, but have not been able to hold their own in the market. Polycrystalline cells are made from silicon cell fragments that are fused together to form a blue colour. The efficiency of these solar panels ranges from 15 to 17%. Polycrystalline cells are cheaper to produce, which is why these panels gained popularity in the market a decade ago.
